The responsibility of owning a cattle dog is greater than other breeds. Knowing you are adding a potentially difficult dog to your pack is crucial! Training in obedience and equally having the patience to grow with your puppy will make a difference in how your puppy will mature.
Turquoise ACDs are registered through AKC and have extensive health testing to ensure that you are receiving a healthy, sound puppy. BUT there are no guarantees the puppy will be right for you. Asking questions about temperament is difficult when the puppy is young. Turquoise litters follow a program called 'Puppy Culture' to help with the beginning stages of social and physical development. Puppy Culture can continue once the puppy is placed in the new home (please ask for more information if interested). If you are not satisfied with your puppy, a refund will be issued (minus the nonrefundable deposit) when the puppy is retuned to Turquoise Ranch up until 1 month post pickup date. No refunds will be accepted after that, and Turquoise Ranch will still take back the puppy to rehome. This is because once a puppy is retuned, it still needs the time to train, vaccinate, deworm, and feed until it finds its new home.
Fully understanding what a cattle dog is before purchasing the 'cute' puppy will ensure the above will not happen. If you think you are ready for one of the best herding dogs, continue to read about your options for registration.
Limited Registration: Your puppy will still be registered through AKC and has the capability to compete in ANY AKC events with the exception of Conformation. Conformation is judging 'breeding stock,' and is not necessary for a dog that will not be breeding. Under contract, you will not be requirement to spay/neuter, but is recommended for the longevity of your pet's life. When signing a contract, you understand that intentional AND accidental breeding your dog will have consequences.
Full Registration: This type of registration is up for discussion. Not every one needs to breed their pet. If you have an interest in conservation breeding and bettering the breed today, Turquoise ACDs could be an asset to your program.
Puppies have their hearing tested before rehoming. Parents of the puppies have DNA disease testing as well as OFA hips/elbows. Click the button to find out more about ACD health requirements.
